The short answer
Venezuela still applies its 1955 Industrial Property Law to trademarks. The right to use a registered mark exclusively lasts fifteen years from the date of registration, renewable for successive periods of fifteen years if renewal is requested in the six months before expiry. Opposition is open for thirty working days after publication in the Industrial Property Bulletin, and a mark not used for two consecutive years can lapse.
Trademark deadlines in Venezuela at a glance
These rules come from the Industrial Property Law of Venezuela (promulgated 2 September 1955), read in the official Spanish text on WIPO Lex, which we have translated. Venezuela left the Andean Community in 2006 and the 1955 law is old, so SAPI practice, decrees and fees may differ, and we confirm the current position before we file.

|---|---|
| How long does a trademark last? | Fifteen years from the date of the corresponding registration, renewable for successive periods of fifteen years (Articles 30 and 31). |
| Which date does the term count from? | The date of registration (Article 30). Each renewal period counts from the expiry of the previous one (Article 31). |

Renewal follows the same formalities as the original registration, without the publications (Articles 31 and 87). |
| Is there a grace period? | The Law does not give a grace period. A mark whose renewal period passes without a request ceases to have effect (Article 36(b)). |
