The short answer

The USPTO is retiring several TEAS maintenance and amendment forms in late October 2026 and moving those filings to Trademark Center. It is a change of filing platform, not a new deadline. Statutory maintenance dates stay exactly as they are.

What is being retired

According to a Tucker Law note on the change, these filings leave TEAS and move to Trademark Center:

  • Section 8 Declaration of Use and/or Excusable Nonuse
  • Section 15 Declaration of Incontestability
  • Combined Sections 8 and 15
  • Combined Sections 8 and 9 (use and renewal)
  • Section 71 Declaration of Continued Use or Excusable Nonuse (certain Madrid Protocol registrations)
  • Combined Sections 71 and 15
  • The Voluntary Amendment workflow for applicants

The source gives only "late October 2026", not an exact day. Check the USPTO notice before you file.

Deadlines do not move

The move does not extend any maintenance window and does not cure a missed deadline. A registration still needs its declaration of use on time. Only the place where you file has changed.

A checklist for owners

1

Check account access

  • Confirm you can sign in to your USPTO.gov account.
  • Sign-in needs multifactor authentication, and identity verification may apply.
2

Pick the right filing

  • The forms are not interchangeable. Match the filing to the registration and its stage.
3

Prepare proof of use

  • Confirm that every listed good or service is still in use.
  • Collect current specimens before the deadline.
4

File early in Trademark Center

  • Do not wait for the last day.
  • For a pending application, use the "amend or update a filing" option for a voluntary amendment, and keep that separate from an Office Action response.

What this means for owners outside the US

Foreign-domiciled applicants already need a US-licensed practitioner. Our earlier note is here: USPTO foreign applicants and US practitioners. Update old TEAS bookmarks and instructions in your docketing system, because old links may stop working.
