(a) Section 20(1), Subject to the other provisions of this section, the term of any patent shall continue for twenty (twenty) years from the date of filing of the patent application or, as the case may be, the priority date.

(b) Section 20(2), For the preservation of the patent, the annual fee shall be applicable from the beginning of the sixth year from the date of a patent application or, as the case may be, the date of priority, and the application for renewal shall be made with payment of the prescribed fee before the expiry of five (5) years of the patent.

(c) Section 20(3): The patent shall be renewed for the following year on payment of the annual fee for the previous year.

(d) Section 20(4), In case of delay in payment of the annual fee, the period of payment of the annual fee shall be extended by 3 (three) months up to a maximum of 6 (six) months, subject to payment of the late fee.

(e) Section 20(5): If the fee is not paid in accordance with the provisions of sub-sections (2), (3), and (4), the patent shall be revoked.

(f) Section 20(6): The registrar may restore the patent at any time within 1 (one) year from the date fixed for payment of the fee, in view of the application for restoration of the patent, if he is satisfied that the payment of the fee within the said period is not possible for reasonable reasons.
